Anahat Singh: India's Squash Prodigy

Anahat Singh was born in New Delhi in 2008, and in just a few years she rose from young, promising junior prodigy to one of Indian sport’s brightest names. She won her first US Open junior title at just 13. She went on to bag two bronze medals at Asian Games 2023. She made history as the first Indian to win the World Junior Squash Championship, ending Egypt’s 16-year hold on the title. Still a teenager, she now has her aim set on the senior PSA tour and squash’s Olympic debut at Los Angeles 2028.

Who is Anahat Singh

Anahat Singh, often considered a squash prodigy, was born in Delhi on 13 March 2008. She grew up in an environment that encouraged her to participate in sports. Her father, Gursharan Singh, is a lawyer, while her mother, Tani Vadehra, is an interior designer. Both her parents were field hockey players, while her older sister, Amira, played squash.

Anahat’s journey to becoming a squash superstar did not begin with playing squash but with badminton, which she started playing at the age of 6. Inspired by P.V Sindhu, she even won a few youth-level tournaments before slowly shifting to squash. While she practised both at first, she ultimately had to choose one to practise professionally.

The Rise: Milestones That Built a Prodigy

Anahat became the first Indian to win the US Open title in any age group category in 2021, achieving this remarkable feat at just 13. She also represented India at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, where she won two bronze medals at the age of 15, making her the youngest Indian medallist in Asian Games history.

She turned professional the same year and came under the guidance of former world no.1 Saurav Ghosal along with coaches Stephane Galifi and Gregory Gaultier. She went on to win her first PSA Bronze event in 2025, where she defeated Commonwealth Games champion Georgina Kennedy. This particular win pushed her into the world's Top 20 and made her the youngest Asian to accomplish that mark.

Creating History: World Junior Champion

On the glorious night of 25 July 2026, at Niagara, Canada, Anahat became the first Indian to win the World Junior Squash championship after defeating the Egyptian player, Ruqayya Salem 11-3, 11-7, 11-9. She attained this title while being undefeated throughout the tournament.

The win became more prominent as it ended Egypt’s sixteen year grip on the title and shattered Egypt's dominance in junior squash. She also surpassed Joshna Chinappa’s 2005 runner-up finish, previously India’s best junior world performance in over two decades. Now with a senior ranking of 20, Anahat is focused on the next PSA tour, with squash set to debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
