Synopsis

On Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs dismissed Pakistan's claims that New Delhi was behind a terror attack on the Sindh Rangers headquarters in Karachi, categorically denying it. TELP's Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesperson for MEA, termed the claims "baseless" and demanded that Pakistan take "credible action" against the setup of terror on its soil. On Saturday night, four members of the Gulistan-e-Jauhar compound were killed as well as six militants in an attack by the Rangers. Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a splinter group of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan took credit.

India categorically denies claims of Pakistan in Karachi

One of the nation's most populous cities was rocked by a militant attack on the Bhittai Wing of the Sindh Rangers in the early hours of Saturday night. Nearly 90 minutes after a joint operation by the Anti-Terrorist Force and Rangers personnel and Special Security Unit commandos, six militants were killed and one militant captured alive, officials said. Four Rangers were killed as well.

Early accounts showed that the attackers drove a vehicle through the main gate of the compound before breaking in and proceeding to carry out the attack by throwing hand grenades and firing automatic weapons. But Pakistan's interior minister Mohsin Naqvi repeatedly accused New Delhi of being behind the strike in a public statement, a charge swiftly denied by the country's government.

India's Unequivocal Rejection

We have witnessed Pakistani reports making baseless allegations against India in the wake of the event in Karachi, which we categorically reject, as opposed to pointing fingers at others, Pakistan should do better to take credible action against the terror infrastructure on its territory and get rid of its proclivity to use terrorism as a tool of state policy, said External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

That was the answer that New Delhi has been giving on many occasions till 2026. In March, India had described Pakistan as a "state sponsor of terrorism for decades", saying that "no amount of storytelling is going to change this reality, nor is anyone deceived by Pakistan's assumed victimhood.

The group behind the attack

The attack was attributed to Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, which is a breakaway group of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Later, Pakistan's military cast doubt on the group being an Indian proxy without presenting any evidence to support the claim, according to The Associated Press.

The attack was the first major militant attack in Karachi since two Chinese engineers were killed in the October 2024, attack on the city's airport, allegedly by the banned Balochistan Liberation Army. It also coincides with growing grievances between Pakistan and Afghanistan that Islamabad has repeatedly alleged the Afghan Taliban are harboring TTP terrorists.

None of the third party evidence supporting Pakistan's claims has been made public as of Sunday evening.
