By 8.42 PM on Monday, all 126 seats were counted, but the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has been reelected to a third consecutive term in Assam, with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance winning 91 seats outright, and one lead, for a combined total of 92.

In the alliances, the BJP was the only party to win 58 seats. Its allies, the Bodo Peoples- Front and the Asom Gana Parishad, added seven and five seats respectively, allowing the NDA to easily cross the majority mark of 64 with a lot of margin to spare.

The opposition led by the Congress is at 21 seats, which includes 17 victories and 4 leads. The AIUDF won 2 victories. Congress seems to be unlikely to violate the 20-seat mark in final counts.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who easily retained the Jalukbari seat with an easy majority, thanked voters and, in after-result comments, urged what he called "good" Hindu Congress leaders to join the BJP. Counting was done in 40 centres in 35 districts out of 40 of the state. Remarkably, 1.29 per cent of Assam electorate voted the NOTA option on EVMs.

Not only the continuity of election, but also a consolidation of the political geography in the northeast of India, of which few opposition strategists had a plausible answer, is marked by three terms in Assam.

At a count of 73 constituency wins (the most by any single party in the current Tamil Nadu Assembly election) as of 8:00 PM on May 4, 2026, the live tally of the Election Commission of India placed actor-turned-politician Vijay Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the current Tamil Nadu Assembly election with a total of 73 constituency wins (the highest by a single party in the current Tamil Nadu Assembly election).

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had 39 seats. Its partner in alliances, the Indian national congress, scored victory in two constituencies. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami, won 25 seats.

A majority of the 234 seats Tamil Nadu Assembly needs 118 seats. TVK, although it was the first to reach that count, still was not that high as the counting was conducted.

One of the most closely anticipated individual results was the constituency of DMK, MK Stalin who lost to TVK, V.S. Babu. In his post-result comments, Babu described himself as a mere ordinary worker, who had gone through the ranks, but was not a protected political worker, as he was a mere TVK worker.

Meanwhile, Udhayanidhi Stalin - Deputy Chief Minister and the son of MK Stalin - was able to hold on to his DMK stronghold, which otherwise gave the party a bright spot in an otherwise dismal evening.
