Rival institute director among three arrested after stone-pelting, vandalism, and alleged gunfire at Khan Global Studies

Three people, including the director of another coaching centre, have been arrested after a violent clash outside popular Faisal Khan (Khan Sir) coaching complex in Musallahpur Haat of Patna. One of the security guards was injured in the incident, suffering head injuries. Police have confirmed the assault, and filed an FIR, but denied gunfire.
Ramesh Kumar, a student of Ara district, who had shifted to Patna city to get ready for Bihar Police recruitment exam, reached his hostel in the early morning of Wednesday to get information of messages on his mobile.
The coaching institute where he spent eight hours a day, Khan Global Studies, founded by teacher Faisal Khan, famous amongst students in the North of India as Khan Sir, was attacked the night before.
He said he didn't believe it at first. It's a place where we study every day - we call it our second home.
The accident which left Ramesh in disbelief that Patna's coaching corridor is safe happened late on Tuesday night near Kadamkuan-Musallahpur.
Police said that a group of people came outside Khan Sir's institute and started throwing bricks and stones at the banners and signs. The attack turned into a body attack of the security of the institute.
The institute's security guard, named Chunchun, was hit by heavy objects and was seriously injured to the head. He was rushed to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) where he was being treated as on Wednesday.
The students holding outside the hospital condemned the violence and demanded action be taken immediately against those responsible.
A formal FIR was filed after a criminal complaint was filed by Kanhaiya Singh, who is an associate of Khan Global Studies. FIR includes four main accused and names between 15 to 20 unidentified accused.
The CCTV footage from the institute and nearby commercial establishments has been reviewed and the matter was being investigated, said Patna City Superintendent of Police Diksha.
Police had arrested three people by Wednesday. The biggest among them was Roshan Anand, director of Gyan Bindu Coaching Institute, a competitor of the same educational group.
Two other persons, Prince Gaurav and Abhishek, were also arrested. The three were all made before a local court and placed in judicial custody.
Investigators are trying to find out if commercial rivalry may have played a role in the attack in the hypercompetitive coaching industry in Patna. Additional suspects have been identified and more arrests are likely in the case, Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma said.
Coaching institutes have both filed counter-complaints with representatives of Khan Classes saying that the gunshots were used by the opposing side, and Gyan Bindu has made the same counter-claim.
Khan Sir, known to so many people through his channel, Khan GS Research Centre and the very low cost of his classes, first spoke to reporters that the attackers had opened fire outside the premises during the classes. Initially, the guard was unable to understand what was happening in the building, he said.
The police have since disputed that account of shooting. Technical teams examined all the CCTV footage from the institute and surrounding commercial premises. There was “zero” visual and forensic evidence of gunfire as of Wednesday afternoon, Patna SSP Sharma said.
Footage “clearly shows people throwing bricks and hurling stones.” After seeing the evidence, Khan Sir recanted his statement, saying he had been misled by his hurt security guard who was distressed.
On Wednesday morning, there were scores of students outside the institute, some expressing concerns about the effect of the violence on their exam preparation.
Students from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, who come to Patna specially to join the coaching institutes which charge less fee for coaching, said that the incident disturbed the normal study schedule in the middle of the recruitment process.
The larger issue of security at coaching complexes in Patna has been brought into the limelight periodically. Since the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination controversy of 2022, Bihar has been the centre of tension over the question of aspirants.
The coaching community serving hundreds of thousands of competitive exam takers is housed in tightly packed urban slums where the possibility of conflict runs high.
Police said Wednesday evening they didn't rule out further arrests. A senior officer at Kadamkuan police station told reporters that the statements of the witnesses were also being taken and forensic teams would present their findings in days.
Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan had visited Khan Sir at his institute in June 2025, but he has not yet made a public comment beyond his initial statements and later correction on the gunfire allegations. An investigation is continuing.
