Willie Walsh to charge as CEO of Indigo succeeds Pieter Elbers
Walsh to take up the chief executive role at Indigo as the airlines enters its third decade and diligent for high growth in a highly stiff market
Aviation industry veteran Willie Walsh officially assumed charge as chief executive officer of IndiGo on Monday, taking over the reins of India's largest airline as it pushes ahead with an ambitious international expansion plan.
AdvertisementThe airline had announced Walsh's appointment in March after Elbers resigned, with Managing Director Rahul Bhatia serving as interim CEO in the meantime.
Walsh has served as the CEO of Aer Lingus, British Airways and International Airlines Group. He also served as the Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
AdvertisementWith more than 430 planes, IndiGo operates nearly 2,200 daily flights. Shares of IndiGo rose 3.72 per cent to Rs 5,363.35 apiece while broader Sensex was nearly 1 per cent higher in the morning trade on the BSE.
Willie Walsh has officially taken charge as IndiGo's chief executive officer. He will now oversee the airline's strategic direction and international growth. Walsh brings over four decades of extensive aviation industry experience to his new role.
