He tried three times to clear 2.24m but couldn't. Neither could anyone else near the top of the leaderboard. Algeria's Younes Ayachi took gold, clearing 2.21m on his first attempt. Britain's Otis Poole got bronze after needing three tries at that same height. Since Meghwal cleared it in fewer attempts than Poole, he came out ahead on countback and secured the medal.

Meghwal hails from Anupgarh, a border town in Rajasthan's Sri Ganganagar district, and represents the Indian Navy in national competition. His clearance in Eugene was not his first at 2.21m; he had achieved the same height earlier in April at the Junior Federation Cup in Bengaluru.

In May 2026, Meghwal won gold at the Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong with a clearance of 2.20m, a result that established him among the region's leading young high jumpers ahead of the World U20 Championships.

The result arrived on a notable day for Indian athletics, following Ashish Yadav's javelin silver a day earlier and coinciding with Shahnavaz Khan's long jump bronze, which together took India's medal tally at the 2026 championships to three, equalling the country's best performance from the 2021 and 2022 editions.
