Supreme Court stays on action against CJP protestors nation wide
Court orders immediate release of minors under state detention; protection will not extent to those with criminal antecedents

Supreme Court on 28th June while hearing the matter wherein, petitioners seeked a need for a nation-wide allowance of peaceful protests and guidelines for the same. The Pleas were filed after the violent brutality were charged upon the protestors of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), who were protesting near Jantar Mantar and Sansad Marg area, demanding immediate resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.

Supreme Court on Tuesday (28th June) ordered immediate release of Minors from detention by State, and cessation of action against the protestors other than those with criminal antecedents and miscreants. A Bench of Judges consisting CJI Surya Kant, Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana
"These agitations in democracy are bound to be," CJI Kant said
The court sent notices of appearance and reply submission to the Chief Secretaries of Delhi, Maharashtra, Bihar, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, for use of excessive force upon the protestors, and called for an independent probe on the protest.
AdvertisementThe court ordered the preservation of all the CCTV, drone, mobile cam, and other recordings to take cognisance in future, the hearing of this matter has been listed for next week.
"No personal data, details of protesters to be published," the Court directed
The Court noted the submission of the petitioner, that, bullet pallets were fired upon the protestors, Sahil Lochab, 19-year-old protester who may have lost his eyesight in his right eye after an alleged pellet injury during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest march in New Delhi on July 20, 2026.
The Court also noted that, police official were dressed in civilian clothes which charged lathis and showed brutality upon student protestors. Lathis sticked with nails were charged, electric batons were used.
The Court also recorded the submission by Solicitor General Mr. Tushar Mehta that, criminals had infiltrated the peaceful protest, which attacked and caused injuries to the policeman.
