Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit Named New IAF Vice Chief

Veteran fighter pilot and former tri-services coordinator takes over as the Indian Air Force's second-in-command, succeeding Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor

Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit took charge as the 51st Vice Chief of the Air Staff (VCAS) of the Indian Air Force on Wednesday when Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor retired as superannuated on June 30 after completing his 40-year-long stint in the service.

Prior to this appointment, Air Marshal Dixit was the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC) from May 1, 2025, and he has effectively contributed to the enhancement of tri-services integration and was actively working towards the development of joint military capabilities of India.

He served at Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff where he worked on Operation Sindoor, released 20 joint doctrines that institutionalised tri-services thinking and formulated the Defence Forces Vision 2047 roadmap.

In a post on X, HQ IDS declared, "Dixit has truly exemplified strategic foresight, operational brilliance, and inspirational leadership during his career.

Dixit was commissioned into the fighter stream of the IAF in December 1986, and an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, Bangladesh and the National Defence College. He is a qualified flying instructor and experimental test pilot having accumulated more than 3,300 flying hours in over 20 types of aircraft such as the Mirage-2000, MiG-21 and Jaguar.

He has served in Operation Safed Sagar, Operation Rakshak, Operation Cope India and Operation Sindoor. Previously, he served as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Air Command. Air Marshal Tejinder Singh is the new CISC.
